  • Whats the best way to ask for upgrade

  • Does anybody ask for airline upgrades (gratis type) when checking in? If so, what's the best approach? In my case, I'm spending $7,000 for a business class RT from US to Europe, could it hurt to ask for an upgrade to FC?

  • Just ask, there isn't any special way to do so. As long as you stay friendly and courteous it might work. Try a friendly approach by asking if they could "move you" up front, or ask if the loads up front would make it possible to get swap for a seat in First. I always try and avoid the "U" word.

  • Since the subject at hand isn't about miles and points, I'm going to move it over to TravelBuzz (http://www.flyertalk.com/travel/fttravel_forumcgi/forumdisplay.cgi?action=topics&forum=TravelBuzz!&number=11&DaysPrune=5&LastLogin=). Please follow it there.

  • Be extremely friendly.

Bring a gift. ("Oh, I'm sorry, but I got this for my friend who cancelled at the last minute and I don't want to haul it all the way to XXXXX and back. Would you like it?") Nice wine or champagne (REAL Champagne works well).
