Does anybody ask for airline upgrades (gratis type) when checking in? If so, what's the best approach? In my case, I'm spending $7,000 for a business class RT from US to Europe, could it hurt to ask for an upgrade to FC?Just ask, there isn't any special way to do so. As long as you stay friendly and courteous it might work. Try a friendly approach by asking if they could "move you" up front, or ask if the loads up front would make it possible to get swap for a seat in First. I always try and avoid the "U" word.Since the subject at hand isn't about miles and points, I'm going to move it over to TravelBuzz (http://www.flyertalk.com/travel/fttravel_forumcgi/forumdisplay.cgi?action=topics&forum=TravelBuzz!&number=11&DaysPrune=5&LastLogin=). Please follow it there.

Bring a gift. ("Oh, I'm sorry, but I got this for my friend who cancelled at the last minute and I don't want to haul it all the way to XXXXX and back. Would you like it?")
