If mom is schizophrenic could there be some residual affects on me?

im adopted and recently found out that my biological mother is schizophrenic and also has an autistic brother, so that would be my uncle

are there any affects this could have on me? ive heard that schizophrenia could be hereditary, but i dont think im going to be that, but i do have Borderline Personality Disorder, so im wondering if my biological families history could be the cause

it's very common to run in families but not always. the illnesses can be different. it's all a mental illness. you may not get that way but if you do know that it is fixable with meds and therapy.

Having a close relative, such as your Mom, with schizophrenia does increase your odds of getting it, but it's still very low - like 10 percent.

They have a lot of very good information on schizophrenia. The first three websites have booklets in pdf format that you can download and save for future reference.

There is also an excellent book, "Surviving Schizophrenia: A Manual for Families, Patients, and Providers" by E. Fuller Torrey, Fifth Edition. I know Barnes & Noble has it. That is very good reading and tells a lot about schizophrenia.

i think ive read that people who's parents have the condition may be genetically more at risk than the general population. that still may not mean that your risk is a big one though.

I also heard that schizophrenia could be hereditary but I don't think one can be passed with that 100%. I am BPD and I told my shrink about how my dad treated me. My Shrink also said that dad seemed to have BPD also. So, I think the effects on the next generation were always there as one was taught how to look at the world and how to react to people around one's life.
Since you are adopted and you don't grow up with your biological mom, you might not be affected by her in a sense that you are not taught by her, taken care of by her and at least 1/2 of the effects were not there when you were in your crucial learning age.
